Monday, October 20, 2008One Potato, Ten Potatoes
... I napped. Read a 19th-century novel. Took long walks around the neighborhood in the fall air with our adorable puppy. And, lying on the couch, studied potatoes. If you read no other book on potatoes, you must check out One Potato, Two Potato by Roy Finamore and Molly Stevens. I purchased this book a year or so ago, and three low-carb diet cycles later was finally ready to dive in. The span of recipes in this book is quite fantastic--I made homemade potato chips with a blue cheese dip, a cream of red pepper and potato soup, roasted leg of lamb with proper crispy potatoes, and used the leftovers from the lamb for shepherd’s pie last night. And these recipes really work! Proportions, timing, small coaching tips ... all right on. Cooking has always been a cross between therapy and meditation for me, and thanks to this book, I can get lost in spuds forever.
